Mateo is a contemporary indigenous painter based out of Colorado Springs Colorado. Never receiving any formal training or instruction, Mateo is entirely self taught in multiple disciplines.

Mateo was originally raised catholic and so his art addresses healing religious trauma and reconnecting to his ancestors (and the land) in addition to decolonizing his perception of what a modern indigenous artist ‘should’ be.
